US 97 Redmond Reroute: Meeting Scheduled for Evergreen Avenue Construction
Residents and businesses in the Evergreen Avenue neighborhood of Redmond are invited to attend a meeting about future construction in the area related to the US 97 Redmond Reroute project. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Redmond Fire Department, 341 NW Dogwood Ave.
Representatives from the Oregon Department of Transportation will present information and details of the design and construction of a portion of Evergreen Avenue (OR 126).
The Evergreen work will extend from the BNSF Railway crossing east to Warsaw Street. The roadway will be widened and improved with a center median, sidewalks and drainage facilities.
Once complete, the new US 97 Reroute will increase the north/south highway capacity and reduce congestion and travel delays on Fifth and Sixth streets in downtown Redmond.
Several parts of the project have been completed, including the piping of one and one-half miles of COID main canal, the construction of NW Seventh, NE Second and NE Ninth streets, the relocation of the PPL main power substation. Currently, crews are working to build the Maple-Negus Bridge, which will span N. Canal Boulevard, the canal, the reroute and the railroad. The bridge, which is scheduled to be finished this fall, will meet up with the City of Redmond’s Dry Canyon Bridge to create a major east-west arterial.
Construction of the mainline is scheduled to start in spring 2007 and the entire project, including a interchange at the north end, is estimated to be finished in late 2008.
