ODOT to Host Open House for I-84 Hood River–The Dalles Bridge Projects Oct. 25 at the Gorge Discovery Center

THE DALLES—The Oregon Department of Transportation is hosting an informal open house meeting to discuss design work under way for bridge projects on Interstate 84 between Hood River and The Dalles.

The open house is Oct. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gorge Discovery Center, Lower Level Classroom. Participants will be able to meet ODOT’s consultant engineering team and discuss the design work under way and how it relates to the recently completed Gorge Design Guidelines. No formal presentation is planned; participants can drop at any time.

The open house will feature preliminary designs for a group of bridge replacement, repair and interstate paving projects in The Dalles and Mosier Creek areas. It is the first of four similar projects in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area that will improve the I-84 corridor from The Dalles to Troutdale. All four projects are scheduled to begin construction in 2008.

To reach the Gorge Discovery Center, take exit 82 from I-84. Parking is available in the front of the building. The facility is fully accessible for persons with disabilities.

The project is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act program. OTIA funds will repair or replace hundreds of bridges, pave and maintain city and county roads, improve and expand interchanges, add new capacity to Oregon's highway system, and remove freight bottlenecks statewide. About 17 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Each year during the OTIA program, construction projects will sustain about 5,000 family-wage jobs.
