The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) invites the public to an open house to learn about and comment on a proposed, temporary construction related access closure of Wimp Way to U.S. 97 north of Terrebonne. The meeting will take place on Thursday, January 20, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., in the Library at Terrebonne Elementary School in Terrebonne. Terrebonne Elementary School is located at 1199 B Street in Terrebonne.
ODOT traffic engineers are recommending the temporary closure of the Wimp Way access to U.S. 97 to improve traveler safety and facilitate construction during the replacement of the BNSF railroad bridge on U.S. 97 north of Terrebonne. ODOT, County, and Contractor staff will be available during the Open House to discuss issues and answer questions related to the proposed temporary access closure.
BNSF Railroad Bridge Replacement North of Terrebonne
The BNSF Railroad Bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on U.S. 97 at milepost 113.9. This bridge replacement project will take place in two phases, starting in early 2005. During the first phase, crews will construct a new, two lane bridge with 10 foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge. Traffic will remain on the existing bridge during construction of the new bridge. Motorists will be routed to the new bridge in Fall 2005. Following this traffic switch, crews will remove the existing bridge.
The $2.7 Million BNSF railroad bridge replacement project is funded by the Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) http://www.odot.state.or.us/otia/otia3index.htm. The Oregon Legislature created OTIA to repair and replace Oregon’s cracked and aging bridges.
