Steering Committee for US 97 & US 20 Refinement Plan Will Review Concepts

The steering committee for the US 97 & US 20 Refinement Plan will review preferred alternatives at a meeting from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 in the DeArmond Room at the Deschutes County Administration Building, 1300 NW Wall St., Bend.

During the meeting, the steering committee will look at the technical advisory committee’s preferred alternatives for the long-term system concepts for US 97 and US 20 at the north end of Bend, and design options for an interchange at Cooley Road and US 97. Representatives of nearby neighborhood associations, Boyd Acres Neighborhood Association (BANA) and Hunnell United Neighbors, as well as a representative of area businesses are scheduled to make brief presentations regarding the current design options for the Cooley Road interchange and the immediate area.

The US 97 & US 20 Refinement Plan is intended to develop a long-term plan for the design of and access to both highways, as well as how traffic on surrounding streets will circulate and tie into the highways. In addition, the study is evaluating the feasibility of various locations for grade-separated interchanges in the area. Study intersections include Empire Avenue, Robal Lane, Cooley Road and Tumalo Road.

The ultimate recommendations from the study will be amended into the City of Bend, Deschutes County and the state transportation plans. The Oregon Department of Transportation project leaders presented concepts for the future of the US 97 & US 20 corridors during a public open house on June 29.
