ODOT Reminder: Parking on State Highways is Illegal
As summer events get underway, the Oregon Department of Transportation reminds drivers that parking is not allowed on state highways.
“It’s a safety issue. Trucks and other traffic are traveling at 55 plus miles-per-hour and are not expecting to encounter people and parked cars on the shoulders of the highway. This is an issue during major events, such as the Sisters Rodeo this weekend,” said Rick Williams, Assistant District Manager for ODOT. “The shoulders are for emergency situations and people need to find other places to park or expect a citation.”
Those who do park on the highway are subject to a $94 fine, according to the Oregon State Police. ODOT and law enforcement will be monitoring highways during special events to ensure compliance.
