Terrebonne: US 97 at Wimp Way Open House
Public Invited to Provide Input on Future of Wimp Way at US 97

Deschutes County and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) invite the public to an open house to provide input on the future of Wimp Way at US 97, north of Terrebonne. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the gymnasium at Terrebonne Elementary School in Terrebonne.

“The purpose of the open house is to discuss the future of the Wimp Way access to US 97 as there are very significant safety issues at this location,” said ODOT Area Manager, Gary Farnsworth. “There were ten reported crashes at this intersection between 1998 and 2002. Eight of the ten crashes involved left turning vehicles onto Wimp Way,” he adds.

Deschutes County and ODOT traffic engineers are looking for comments from local residents and property owners about how best to address this important issue.

“It will be an opportunity to share findings by the County and ODOT and to gain feedback from the public. We’ll have information to share and will be looking for input about how things have been working for drivers residents, school buses, and emergency services since the temporary construction closure at Wimp Way began earlier this year,” Farnsworth says.

Wimp Way at US 97 has been closed to through traffic since February 7 to facilitate work at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Bridge.

As a result of input from the public regarding the temporary Wimp Way closure, Deschutes County installed a new, dedicated right turn lane on Lower Bridge Way at the intersection of US 97 to mitigate added traffic using the intersection as a detour route.

Note: Terrebonne Elementary School is located at 1199 B Street in Terrebonne.
