Flaggers and a pilot car will continue to control motorist movements 24 hours-a-day through mid-week, when the reconstructed highway is expected to reopen to two lanes.
Expect up to 20-minute delays. Speed has been reduced to 40 mph in the construction zone.
The work will include raising the highway by 3 ½ feet, with stone embankment, aggregate base, asphalt concrete pavement. New guardrail and concrete barriers will also be installed as part of the project.
The highway closed in June after floodwaters from Klamath Lake submerged portions of the roadway and thousands of acres to the north after the failure of Geary Levy. Along, US 395, contractor crews will add two to three inches of new pavement on the Freemont Highway, north of Lakeview. This paving project will improve the aging highway surface in the area and includes upgrades to guardrail and constructing new mailbox turnouts. The project is anticipated to be finished in summer 2006.
