Connect Oregon II Projects On Tap
Area Commissions to consider “non-highway” projects, and planned highway modernization projects
Central Oregon ODOT (Region 4) Area Commissions on Transportation (ACT’s), are setting priorities for proposed Connect Oregon II projects, even as they discuss how to make improvements to the Region’s Highway system.
Connect Oregon II is a $100 million fund set aside by the Legislature for “non-highway” transportation projects.  Central Oregon’s direct share is $10 million.  $50 million will be distributed on a statewide discretionary basis.
The R-4 ACT’s are considering 16 applications including such proposals as Madras’ $2 million request to revitalize a World War Two era airport hangar and Prineville’s request for $3.5 million for the Prineville Railroad and freight depot.  The total for all the proposals is in excess of the amount available and the ACT’s must reach consensus on which projects to support.
Commissioners will also be commenting on proposed highway improvements.
The Area Commissions on Transportation serve as advisory groups to the Oregon Transportation Commission (OTC) and consider regional and local transportation issues as they affect the state system.
