OR 58 - US 97 Chip Seal Project
Current News
Work zone logo
The section of OR 58 south of Crescent Lake to the junction of U.S. 97 is scheduled to be chipped sealed beginning in July.  This 16-mile stretch of highway is just beginning to show some surface cracking and will greatly benefit from the new oil and rock.  ODOT estimates it will extend the life of the road surface another 3-5 years.
Additional chip sealing is planned along U.S. 97 on a three miles section just north of Chemult (milepost 200-203), a 16-mile section just south of Chemult (MP 204-220), and a nine mile section from Fuego Road  to Forest Service Road 9732 (MP 232-241).
Motorists should expect short delays during operations.  Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car.  Work is not allowed on weekends or holidays.  Please slow down as you approach and drive through the work zones.  Stay alert, and give the workers a break.
All work should be completed by the end of August.
This chip sealing will be a bit different than what has been typically used in the past.  Clean, hard rock will be pre-coated with asphalt oil and allowed to cool.  The pre-coated rock, when placed on hot asphalt oil laid directly to the road surface, is more likely to adhere and stay in place.
