US 97 BRIDGE OVER CALIFORNIA AND FIRST STREETS, KLAMATH FALLS
PROJECT FACT SHEET

Project Location:
The US 97 bridge over California and First Streets is located at milepost 274.7 of US 97 in the city of Klamath Falls.

Purpose of the Project:
The bridge is structurally deficient and in need of replacement.

Traffic Changes during Construction:
The bridge will be part of a work zone that includes the US 97 bridge over Green Springs Drive (milepost 275.8). The total work zone will stretch for approximately 1.5 miles. Reduced speeds (35 mph) will be posted through the zone. Construction of a detour bridge will begin in late winter 2004. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with a signalized control at each end of the construction area to allow traffic to move through the area in one direction at a time. No access restrictions or closures of city streets in Klamath Falls are expected.

Information during Construction:
A pre-construction meeting was held on Sept. 30, 2004, which included officials from the City of Klamath Falls and Klamath County. Signs will be posted for the construction zone prior to the beginning of construction. Traffic advisories will be issued to provide notification regarding lane restrictions. Variable message boards will be used to provide advance notice of lane restrictions to travelers.
