OR 126 Crooked River Bridge & US 26 Signal at Harwood Street
US 26 @ Harwood Street
US 26 @ Harwood Street
Project Budget:
$4,315,000

Project Schedule:
Bid-Let Date: Winter 2005
Construction start: Early 2006

Project Location:
OR 126 and US26, at mileposts 17.97 (Crooked River) and 18.35 (Harwood Street) in the city of Prineville, Crook County.

Project Description:
This Project is composed of two projects:  1) OR 126: Crooked River Bridge located at the western edge of Prineville; and 2) US 26 at Harwood Street Intersection in Prineville.  The existing Crooked River Bridge was posted for legal loads in 2001.  Emergency retrofit brought the bridge up to annual permits, but remained insufficient for weight table 5.  In addition, the connection to O’Neil Highway at the northwest end of the bridge requires corrections to ensure safe truck turning movements for vehicles traveling eastbound on OR 126 turning northbound to O’Neil Highway.  The proposed improvements will include replacement of the existing two lane bridge with a four lane bridge, correcting the connection to O’Neil Highway, installation of sidewalks on the bridge to facilitate access to a state park trail head, installation of retaining walls to avoid environmental impacts, and potential installation of ornamental lights and rails on the bridge.

The US 26 at Harwood Street intersection has safety and capacity problems. The proposed improvements include installation of traffic signal, ADA ramps; cross walk striping, and relocation of overhead utility lines.
