I84: Hood River - Mosier
Project Location:
The Hood River – Mosier preservation project is located on Oregon Interstate 84 (I84) from MP 64.45 to MP 70.12.  The project is in Hood River County and Wasco County.
Purpose of the project:
The purpose of the project is to repair the existing pavement that is beginning to ravel and show signs of stress.  This project will also repair the sinkholes that are present at MP 65 eastbound and MP 69 west bound.  All sub-standard or damaged concrete barrier and guardrail will be replaced.  Mosier Creek bridge and Rock Creek Bridge decks will be repaired.

Build Alternative:
Inlay the travel lane with 50mm Level 4, 19mm Dense lime treated HMAC base course and overlay full width with a 50mm level 4, 19 mm Open lime treated HMAC full with wearing course.
Resurface Mosier Interchange
Install current standard end treatments and raise the guardrail to meet current standard.
Install rumble strips
Repair subgrade problems (sinkholes) at MP 65 eastbound and MP 69 westbound.
Remove the asphalt from the bridge decks to repair the cracks and place a membrane surface on the decks.

Public Involvement:
The public can comment on the project during the Columbia River Gorge Scenic permit process.

Plans for future communication about the project:
News releases will be issued monthly to provide information about pubic meetings, project updates, and project schedule.
Information during Construction:
Road and lane closure dates, anticipated duration of construction and status reports will be posted available in news releases. 
Key project milestones:
  • Begin permit process – April 2003
  • Begin final design –  August 2003 
  • Let the project – October 2003
  • Begin construction – Spring 2004
