I84 over US30 Bridge Replacement
I84 over US30 ( Webber Street ) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Project Location:
The I84 over US30 (Webber Street) project is located on Oregon Interstate 84 (I84), between mileposts 83.56 and 83.87 in the city of The Dalles, Wasco County.
Purpose of the project:
The purpose of the I84 over US30 (Webber Street) project is to replace the existing bridge and bring it up to design standards.  This existing bridge has been identified on the Statewide Cracked Bridge list and is restricted to certain truck loads.  As a part of this project, the eastbound acceleration lane will be lengthened across the bridge, the shoulders and medians will be constructed wider, and signs and illumination will be upgraded.  Webber Street, beneath the bridge, will be repaved under the bridge as well as the on westbound on-ramps to the Interstate.
Traffic changes during the project:
The bridge work will be completed in two Stages.  Stage 1 constructs the north side of the roadway with traffic shifted to the eastbound lanes.  The eastbound exit and entrance ramp will remain open during this stage.  Stage 2 constructs the south side of the roadway with traffic shifted to the westbound lanes.  During this stage, the eastbound entrance ramp to I84 will be closed.  The eastbound detour will be signed along 6th Street west to the Chenowith Interchange.  An alternate route to the interstate can be 6th Street east to downtown 3rd Street to the Brewery Grade Interchange.  The eastbound exit ramp will remain open.  The detour is anticipated to last three months.
Information during Construction:
A public construction kickoff meeting will be scheduled once a Contractor is selected and the final construction schedule is complete.  Road and lane closure dates and durations will be posted on variable message boards along the Interstate and broadcasted over the radio. Construction status reports will be posted on the ODOT website.

The construction of the project must be completed between September 2004 and May 2005 due to lane restrictions on I84 during peak seasons of travel.
