To get started, subscribers click on the link above and enter their e-mail address. They'll then choose the e-mail alerts they want to receive, selecting from a list of the current topics offered by ODOT and its Divisions. The list will grow in the coming weeks as more topics are added so subscribers should periodically revisit it to see if there's something new of interest to them.

The Motor Carrier Transportation Division category currently includes alerts related to the following:
  • Green Light weigh-in-motion system status -- be notified when one of the 21 sites is experiencing technical difficulties and when its fixed.
  • Motor Carrier Transportation Advisory Committee (MCTAC) meeting notices and meeting minutes -- receive the agenda and public meeting notice when they're announced and subsequently receive the minutes of meetings.
  • Oregon Motor Carrier News -- be notified when a new issue of the quarterly News is available online, a couple weeks before paper copies are mailed to motor carriers.
  • Motor carrier-related rulemakings -- be notified when the Motor Carrier Division has opened a rulemaking to change an existing administrative rule or add a new one.
  • Trucker Advisories -- be notified when the Motor Carrier Transportation Division issues notice of a new road or bridge restriction that has the potential for impact on freight mobility and/or affects trucks operating under over-dimension Continuous Operation Permits (annual permits).
NOTE: When signing up for GovDelivery, subscribers should be sure to accept the invitation to add password protection for their subscription. Otherwise it's possible for anyone who knows someone's e-mail address to sign on and change their selection of e-mail alert topics.

What is GovDelivery?
GovDelivery logo

The Oregon Department of Transportation is introducing a new way for its customers to stay in the loop and in the know. The agency has enlisted a company called GovDelivery and its communication system to alert subscribers when something's happened in a certain topic area. If someone wants to know when the Motor Carrier Division is notifying truckers about a new road or bridge restriction, for example, they can subscribe to Trucker Advisories and receive a notice of each restriction.

GovDelivery is currently engaged by government throughout the country, including cities, counties, transit authorities, state and federal agencies, to send over 150 million messages to the public every month on topics ranging from local park hours and fishing license renewals to national health emergencies. It's a web-based communication tool for reaching stakeholders via email, text messaging, RSS (Really Simple Syndication), and even social media.
