Administrative Rules Committee Meeting
This Board committee was scheduled to meet on 09/09/2024, but the meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum. The virtual meeting has been rescheduled to 10/10/2024 to discuss matters related to rules for registration and continuing education. See the meeting agenda and meeting notice for details. Contact the Board office with any questions related to this public meeting.

Help Shape Requirements for Landscape Architects

The Board seeks Registered Landscape Architects (RLAs) to help with assessment of standards for registration (licensure) and continuing education requirements!  Volunteer RLAs who can bring diverse voices and experiences to the conversation and represent practitioners in varying career stages are a key part of this effort. Emerging professional? Mid-career? Seasoned practitioner? The Board needs your help as members of its Administrative Rules Committee (ARC). Contact the Board at oslab.info@bgelab.oregon.gov or 503-589-0093 if you are a RLA interested in this volunteer opportunity.

The ARC is a long-standing committee that includes Board members and Board registrants. The ARC assists with review of existing rules and development of ideas for rule changes. OSLAB uses the ARC to help review rulemaking proposals for clarity as well as for input on opportunities to simplify, modernize, or eliminate rules. Rules might sound like a dull topic, but rules are of great importance as this is where key decisions about regulation of the profession are established.  Once rules are adopted, OSLAB and its registrants must follow these rules.

The next assignments for the ARC will be helping the Board evaluate standards for registration (including education and work experience requirements) and continuing education requirements. There is not a set term for ARC membership, but OSLAB hopes to find individuals who can volunteer for 18 to 24 months, allowing time for the upcoming efforts to be completed. The anticipated workload is attendance at several virtual meetings per year, with limited review of materials in between meetings.

Continuing education credit available!  A RLA is eligible for up to 4 hours of health, safety, and welfare credit after completion of 1 year of service as an appointed committee member.  Credit is then available for ongoing service.

Scam Alert for Board Registrants

The attached flyer provides a proactive warning about a potential scam targeting individuals holding professional registrations. Read for tips on how to recognize scams involving requests for registration-related payments or sensitive information. The Board will not ask for payments or sensitive information over the phone, by email, or by text. The Board encourages its registrants to contact the Board office if ever faced with a question about whether a phone call, e-mail, or other request is legitimately from the Board.
