Open House to discuss Brookswood Blvd. closure scheduled for Thursday, April 30
An informational open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 30 at Pine Ridge Elementary School at 19840 Hollygrape Street. The purpose of the open house is to talk about the project and the closure of Brookswood Boulevard during construction of the roundabout that will connect to the new Murphy Road extension. A formal presentation is not planned so you may arrive anytime between 4-7 p.m. Representatives from ODOT and the City of Bend will be on hand to discuss the project and answer questions.
Brookswood Boulevard closed May 14 through September 4
To facilitate construction of a new roundabout, Brookswood Boulevard between Pinebrook Boulevard and Lodgepole Drive will be closed May 14 through September 4, 2015. Residents who live on Finchwood Drive and Wrenwood Place will continue to have access to their homes during construction. Traffic will be detoured to Baker Road and U.S. Highway 97.
Blasting planned on the Murphy Road Project during April
Construction of the new section of Murphy Road between the Bend Parkway and Brookswood Boulevard is moving into a new phase. Beginning the week of April 6 and lasting three weeks, the contractor will be periodically setting off blasts to break up the rock so they can begin forming the roadbed.
Traffic on the Bend Parkway and Brookswood Boulevard will not be affected. Residents in the vicinity of the blasting have been notified.
The new section of Murphy Road will be concrete with two travel lanes, two bike lanes and sidewalks on either side. It will connect to a roundabout at Brookswood Boulevard, which is scheduled to be constructed beginning in mid-May.
Background on Phase 2
The $5.0M construction contract was awarded to Knife River Corporation-Northwest in late January 2015. This contract will construct the new alignment of Murphy Road west of the Bend Parkway, construct a roundabout at Brookswood Blvd. and Murphy Road, install a permanent Variable Message Sign on U.S. 97 south of Bend, remove the signal at Pinebrook Blvd. and the Bend Parkway, and complete an assortment of other small local road improvements.
Construction of the roundabout at Murphy Road and Parrell Road will be competed by the City of Bend in a separate contract later this year.
The preliminary construction schedule has the new Murphy Road alignment being constructed in the late February-May timeframe. There should be minimal impacts to traffic. The roundabout at Murphy Road and Brookswood is scheduled to begin in mid-May and be completed and open to traffic in early September. All project work is to be completed by the end of December 2015.
