    OSP Images
    The Forensic Services Division is a nationally accredited forensic laboratory system serving all state and local law enforcement agencies, medical examiners and prosecuting attorneys in Oregon. The Division also performs forensic analysis on criminal cases for the defense upon a court order.

    The Forensic Services Division provides Oregon's only full service forensic laboratory system. Our analysts provide technical assistance and training, evaluate and analyze evidence, interpret results, and provide expert testimony related to the full spectrum of physical evidence recovered from crime scenes.

DNA Submission Changes for Missing Persons and Unidentified Human Remains Cases
Recently the Medical Examiner's Division was sent notice by the University of North Texas-Center for Human Identification (UNT-CHI) that they can no longer process DNA samples from Oregon, as they have recently lost their funding from the National Institute of Justice for 2017. The OSP Portland Metro Forensic Laboratory-DNA Unit will now receive all appropriate submissions for Missing Persons (MP) cases (family reference samples [FRS] and direct MP reference samples) as well as the unidentified remains samples (UP) for identification purposes. Click here to view guidelines for submitting this type of evidence to the laboratory. The address for submission is:

Oregon Regional Forensic Academies​
Oregon Regional Forensic Academies are held in various locations across Oregon each year. These classes provide training to local law enforcement in the identification, collection and preservation of evidence. They are designed for new investigators or as refreshers to more experienced officers.
