We offer Oregon’s only full service forensic laboratory system and are the sole source provider for most forensic science services. We provide scientific examination of evidence for all criminal justice system partners including the FBI, the United States Attorney for Oregon, District Attorney’s offices, Sheriff’s departments, police departments, Oregon State Police offices and criminal defense attorneys.
Our analysts collect, analyze and evaluate evidence, interpret results, and provide expert testimony concerning the full spectrum of physical evidence recovered from crime scenes. We provide analysis in biology, chemistry, trace, toxicology, DNA, latent prints, firearms and tool-marks, and we provide related technical assistance and training in a variety of professional and academic environments.
We consistently meet a challenging set of forensic science accreditation requirements while delivering the highest quality scientific analysis. We strive for efficiency and excellence in customer service for all members of the criminal justice system. All analysts are proficiency tested annually, casework is technically reviewed by a second analyst, and every laboratory undergoes an annual audit by the Quality Assurance Manager. External audits are also conducted at least once every five years by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors / Laboratory Accreditation Board. These measures ensure the highest standards of reliability and accuracy.
We are the only Oregon entity with access to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), the Integrated Ballistic Index System (IBIS), and the Shoe-prints Image Capture and Retrieval system (SICAR®). These systems and the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) represent the state of the art. Collectively they provide powerful and fast analytical support that helps our scientists work efficiently and effectively to identify people involved in crimes.
