Definitions

The Department of Consumer and Business Services is committed to providing Oregonians with equal access to its programs and services, as well as fair and equal employment opportunities.

Definitions

Diversity

An environment in which a variety of different individuals, groups, and communities with different social and cultural characteristics exist together. Diversity can also reference a variety of experiences or thought in which a group of people thinking independently have the opportunity to work together.

Equity

Fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement while simultaneously striving to identify and eliminate structural barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups.

Inclusion

Cultivating an environment in which any individual or group can feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate.

Belonging

A sense of fitting in or feeling like you are an important member of a group. Being a recognized member of a group. Sense of authentically feeling in solidarity with others.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council

The DCBS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council is an advisory body that promotes achieving the agency’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and business needs through belonging effective culture change strategies. The council’s three subcommittees – Events, Governance, and Training – help fulfill the goals of the council and the agency’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and mission. They promote (Events), share resources (Training), and review (Governance) areas regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
