Workflow is the focal point for record functionality in Accela. It represents the lifecycle of the record from beginning to end – however that is represented from module to module – as high-level required tasks only. These tasks mirror the larger steps that are the record process. There is a volume of built-in scripting that upon each status result manages the record’s progress and populates other key record information (ex. Issue/Final Date) as well as handles ongoing process-related communication with the applicant of record. While individual task status is updated as per the status result, the overall record status is also fully managed through workflow as well. Skipping workflow tasks/steps can result in missing data, incompatible data, and errors in other functional areas of the record like inspection scheduling, fee/payment processing, reporting and when finaling/closing the record.
