Public Defense Caseload Forecast

Senate Bill 337 (2023) transferred the responsibility for forecasting public defense caseloads and eligible adults and juveniles from the Office of Public Defense Services to the Office of Economic Analysis. The first OEA public defense forecast is due to be published by April 15, 2024. Please feel free to contact Michael Kennedy at 971-678-5595 or michael.kennedy@das.oregon.gov on matters regarding the Public Defense Forecast.

The Office of Economic Analysis has commissioned a technical workgroup to determine the nature of the office's forecast output, identify data requirements and review potential methodologies. The workgroup held its first meeting on Oct. 4 to determine the nature of OEA's forecast output. OEA is currently working with the Judicial Department and the Office of Public Defense Services to develop datasets to inform the forecast process.
