October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Every October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month empowers Oregonians with simple, practical ways to stay safe online. This year's theme, Building a Cyber Strong Oregon, highlights four easy steps everyone can take to protect themselves, their families, and their communities from cyber threats.

The state of Oregon is proud to support this effort in partnership with the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) and Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Governor Tina Kotek has officially proclaimed October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, reinforcing Oregon's commitment to a safer and more secure digital environment.

Four Simple Steps to Help Build a Cyber Strong Oregon:

1. Recognize and Report Scams

Learn how to spot common warning signs, avoid falling for scams, and report suspicious messages before they cause harm.

2. Keep Technology Secure and Use AI Safely

Keep your software updated, use approved tools, and learn how to interact with artificial intelligence responsibly and securely.

3. Use Strong Passwords

Create long, unique passwords and use an approved password manager when available to keep your accounts protected.

4. Enable Multifactor Authentication

Add an extra layer of security to your accounts and stay alert for unexpected authentication requests.
