Board Update: Agency & system updates
Published: August 19, 2026
This is an email blast from the Board on current updates on the licensing system implementation and other topics of interest. Just a reminder, if you have a question about the Boards laws/rules, there is a link on the header of the Board’s website.
Patient records: Board will begin enforcement for transferring patient records to unlicensed ODs/corporations
Licensing system updates:
- No online receipts are available at this time, so email Board staff for a receipt
- License verifications—You can request license verifications through the online portal. Verifications are generally processed within 2 business days after the payment is processed.
- If you need a license copy, Give Gabby a call to pay the fee and make the request.
- If you submit a name change through the portal, please email OBO staff to let us know you've made the request. The system doesn't alert us to those requests.
- The courtesy 45- and 30-day license renewal reminders are working--remember your license due date is always the first day of your birth month and your expiration is the last day of your birth month.
- The ARBO data feed is working, but licensees aren't able to add those courses your record through the "add" function. You'll need to manually enter those courses in your record. We have made the system vendor aware of this issue and hope that it's fixed soon.
- We still don't have the ability to enter CE outside of license renewal period.
- The CE entry screen has a section for ethics and law/ethics. Licensees only need to report one hour of law or ethics training every other renewal period. If you take a course outside of your two-year cycle, the due date will be moved up 2 years.
- The 3 biennial CE requirement due dates are available in the CE entry screen. If you want that information outside of your renewal cycle, email OBO staff for that information.
- Staff will update the how to videos as soon as things are functional and dependable. They are helpful tools when staff is out of the office and licensees need assistance.
Just a reminder, licensees can earn their one hour of law/ethics training by attending at least 50 minutes of board meetings. Here are the 2026/27 meeting dates. Meetings start at 12:30 pm and are available online:
Friday November 6, 2026
Friday February 5, 2027
Friday May 4, 2027
Friday August 6, 2027
Friday November 5, 2027
The Board just released a number of rule changes—they were emailed to all active and inactive licensees, as well as the Board's email list for meetings/rule changes. Please take some time to review those changes and if you have public comment, there is a hearing scheduled for Thursday September 24th at 1 pm. The hearing link is included in the email. You can also make public comment until 2 pm 9/24 via email, mail or fax. All public comments will be posted on the Board's website and provided to the Board for review at the November 6th meeting.
Halloween will be here before we know it. If you see cosmetic contact lenses being sold without a prescription, please let OBO staff know so that we can follow up--we'll need to know where they are being sold (so include a business name and address). That's an illegal practice and the Board investigates and sends the seller a cease sales letter letting them know they can be penalized up to $10,000.
