Board Update: New licensing system updates
Published: May 20, 2026
Here's some updates about the new licensing system to help your usage. Again, if you are a renewal after July, please activate your account and then wait with any issues that aren't time sensitive. We are debugging the system and focusing on the current renewals. If you have trouble activating, email us and we can send you some additional guidance.
License renewals--If you've recently renewed your license, you'll get an email that says that you can log in and print your wall certificate (license). That's not accurate. The Board is reviewing license renewals in two business days and printing and mailing licenses as we've always done. When you renew, the system is terminating your address of record, which means that you can't log in. Please let us know if you need to log in immediately after your renewal . If you don't need access until later in June, we'd appreciate your patience in waiting.
Addresses—There is a system glitch where the system is terminating your addresses. The vendor is fixing that. If you have locations that the system terminated, OBO staff will fix them. If it's in your renewal process, we'll catch it there. If it's done in your system activation, please send us an email to
optometry.board@obo.oregon.gov and we'll fix them. You will need at least an address of record and a primary practice location (if you're active status). If you have additional practice locations, verify that they are in the system. Only add new locations to the system (Don’t re-add the locations terminated by the system). Unless you're working for the military, a federal facility, a telehealth business or a tribal health clinic, you don't need to add out of state practice locations. If you're doing telehealth, you'll report the base of operations as your primary practice. If your address of record is a practice location, be sure that the business name is in the record.
CE carryover—the vendor has turned on the ability to mark courses for carryover. Be sure to leave at least 18 hours unmarked, and at least 9 of those must be TMOD credit. If you are a May, June, or July renewal and your CE carryover isn't in the system, email us and we can add placeholder courses to reflect those hours.
Biennial CE requirements (pain, law/ethics, culture)—If you have a license renewal in June or July and you don't know your due dates, email us at
optometry.board@obo.oregon.gov and we can send you a screen shot of your due dates. If you have a later renewal, please wait until mid-June for these requests. We're still trouble shooting the system and the vendor will add those dates in the system, in the next week or so.
Payment receipts—the vendor is working on adding the invoices to the system. If you're a May or June renewal, email us for a copy of your credit card receipt that details the fees you paid. Later, receipts & invoices will be available in the portal.
CE courses—the annual CE summary screen is rounding up 0.5 hour courses to a full hour. Be sure that you have reported 18 hours by looking at each of the course entries. As a reminder, the Board only accepts half and full hour courses, so if you take a 0.75 hour course, report it as .5. If you take a 1.25 hour course, report it as 1 hour, etc.
CPR reporting—just a reminder that Board rules extend your CPR expiration date to the last day of the month. If you could input the data that way, it would save staff time. We currently open every new CPR record and 90% of the time we are extending the expiration date.
Future CE reporting—currently we don't have future CE plans available. Please be patient. As soon as they are available for data input, we will send everyone an email when you can do that.
