New to Oregon

As a new Oregon resident, within 30 days you must:
  • Get an Oregon Driver's License (if you want to drive); and
  • Title and register your vehicle.

Getting an Oregon Driver's License or ID card

Most people can transfer their license without testing if it was issued by:
  • Any U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia.
  • Canada, Japan, South Korea, Germany and Taiwan.
You can transfer your motorcycle-endorsed license without testing if it was issued by:
  • Any U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia.
  • Canada and Japan
Be sure to tell us you want to keep your endorsement when you apply for your driver's license.

Getting an Oregon Title and Registration

Visiting Oregon?

You are considered a visitor if you are:
  • A permanent resident outside Oregon.
  • In the military and stationed in Oregon.
  • Attending school in Oregon and paying non-resident tuition.
  • Not planning to take any steps to become a resident of Oregon.
As a visitor, you can legally drive in Oregon if you have a valid driver's license from:
  • Any U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia.
  • Another country.
