Commercial Vehicle License Plates

Plates Issued by Oregon CCD

Oregon-based motor carriers operating only in Oregon
White Oregon Commercial Plate
  • Commercial vehicles that only operate within Oregon and have a GVW of 26,001 pounds or more are issued a “Commercial" plate that begins with the letters YC.
  • Registration is only valid for Oregon.
  • Vehicle is subject to Oregon's weight-mile tax.

Oregon Commercial License Plate

Oregon-based motor carriers operating in two or more jurisdictions
White Oregon Apportioned Plate
  • Commercial vehicles with a GVW of 26,001 pounds or more who operate interstate are issued an "Apportioned" plate that begins with the letters YA.
  • Registration is valid in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Vehicle is subject to Oregon's weight-mile tax.

Yellow Oregon Apportioned Plate
  • Commercial vehicles with a GVW of 26,000 pounds or less who operate interstate are issued a Little-Y (IRP) plate.
  • Registration is valid in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Vehicle is not subject to Oregon's weight-mile tax.

Oregon-based commercial vehicles with a GVW between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds, operated solely in Oregon, will register with Driver and Motor Vehicles (DMV) to get a “T” plate.

Out-of-state commercial vehicles are identified by the license plate issued by each carrier´s home state or province, usually under the International Registration Plan (IRP).

Registration Stickers

Stickers for Oregon Commercial and Apportioned plates are issued annually, indicating the valid year with no month.
  • The annual plate renewal is valid from January through December.
  • Contact our registration office if you need a replacement sticker.

Truck Identification

Please see our Truck Cab Marking Requirements document for all truck identification standards. Federal law and Oregon Administrative Rule require you to display markings on each side of your truck power units showing:
  • The carrier's legal name or a single trade name of the business that owns or controls operations.
  • The carrier's USDOT number.
