Finding Academic Library Statistics
Sources of Academic Library Statistics
Oregon Academic Library Survey Oregon Academic Library Survey
In 2001, the Oregon State Library, after consulting with the Oregon academic library community, made the decision to only collect interlibrary loan, staffing and directory data.  In 2007, the State Library discontinued the Oregon Academic Survey.
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
Biennial statistics on U.S. academic libraries are available from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Data are collected by NCES with the support of the U.S. Census Bureau's Division of Governments. Major data categories include outlets, staffing, expenditures, collections, electronic services, library visits, circulation, reference questions and resource sharing/interlibrary loan. Data are used in the peer comparison tool and published in E.D. Tab: Academic Libraries in the United States: Fiscal Year ####.
Association of Research Libraries
Association of Research Libraries (ARL)
ARL Statistics is a series of annual publications that describes the collections, expenditures, staffing, salary and service activities for the member libraries of the Association of Research Libraries. ARL has 125 members, mostly large universities.

Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL)
ACRL's Academic Library Trends & Statistics offers data in five major categories — collections, expenditures, personnel and public services, faculty and enrollment statistics, and supplementary statistics. The survey is comprehensive, covering 1,482 academic libraries in all Carnegie classifications. Access to online summaries is free, but the complete survey results are available online or in print for a fee.
