Answerland Reference Volunteer

Answerland is Oregon’s online reference service – a place where librarians help Oregon residents find answers to questions and provide research guidance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the State Library of Oregon.
 
Answerland welcomes trained library professionals and library school students to help answer questions.

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • Must have reference experience or have completed a reference class at an ALA accredited college or university MLS/MLIS program within the past 10 years.
  • Willing to volunteer for at least one 2-hour shift every week.
  • Although not a qualification, customer service experience is a plus.

How to apply and next steps:

Step 1: Fill out our Answerland Volunteer application

Step 2: After reviewing your application, the State Library Volunteer Coordinator, will email you the Answerland Handbook and training materials.
 
Step 3: Review the Answerland Handbook and complete the training materials.
 
Step 4: Contact the State Library Volunteer Coordinator and let them know you've completed the tasks from Step 3.
