FirstNet Network
The FirstNet Network (FirstNet for short) refers to the National Public Safety Broadband Network, a cellular network built to serve first responders and meet the needs of public safety across the nation. When you hear the term FirstNet, think of this nationwide network. FirstNet operates on its own
network core, separate from any other network core.
FirstNet was created to be a force-multiplier for first responders — to give public safety the 21st century communication tools they need to help save lives and keep our communities safe. Built on commercial standards, the FirstNet network is resilient, interoperable, and able to provide optimal levels of operational capability during emergencies.
The network operates in all 56 states and territories and delivers the benefits of lower costs, consumer-driven economies of scale, and advanced communication capabilities for public safety personnel.
FirstNet Authority
This logo represents the FirstNet Authority, an independent federal government entity.
TheFirst Responder Network Authority is an independent federal agency created within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) charged by Congress with overseeing the development, ongoing deployment, and operation of FirstNet. It is responsible for ensuring the network continues to meet public safety’s needs, providing oversight and governance of the network, and advocating for public safety communications. The Authority is the contract manager with the vendor selected to operate the network.

FirstNet by AT&T

AT&T was selected as the private sector partner to build out and operate the
FirstNet network over a period of 25 years which began in 2018. It is a public-private partnership between AT&T and FirstNet Authority. The initial buildout of the network was completed in 2023.
Much of the FirstNet network along side it’s commercial network and FirstNet gear may be deployed next to AT&T commercial gear. FirstNet users also have access to AT&T’s commercial network and that of AT&T’s roaming partners to expand the coverage available to public safety.
As part of the build out of the network, AT&T built 46 new tower sites in Oregon, which has increased voice and data coverage for FirstNet subscribers by approximately 30,800 square miles. Currently, more than 363 public safety agencies in Oregon are using FirstNet.

Public safety agencies who are FirstNet subscribers can request deployable equipment for added support during disasters and planned events at no additional cost. The deployable network assets are designed to keep FirstNet subscribers connected to the information they need, when they need it, no matter the location or the hazard being faced. AT&T is contractually committed to meeting the needs and of FirstNet subscribers within 14 hours of a request.
