Your Business

We receive many calls from businesses wanting to update information about their business. These changes are usually handled by the Secretary of State Corporation Division. Some of the most common tasks we get asked about are listed below.

Top Tasks

  • Change information about your business
  • Update your business address
  • Change officers or registered agents
  • Change your business name or type

Find out how to complete these tasks on the Update Registration page of the Secretary of State's website.

Other Common Tasks

The Business Xpress Startup Toolkit will help with these tasks.

Change in Ownership

Many businesses are sold or inherited by others. A change in ownership can be made by simply submitting the appropriate form to the Secretary of State: Business Registration Forms

Most licenses based on trade or location do not transfer between owners, so if you are involved in a business transfer, you’ll want to know which licenses are held by the business and find out if those licenses carry over to the new owners.
It’s important to know about property acquired in the purchase of a business that may be taxable. Find out about Personal Property Tax by contacting your county assessor.
