Premium Efficiency Heating Ducts
Premium Efficiency Ducts

As much as 25 percent of the heat from a forced-air heating system may be lost through leaks in the ductwork. You can get a tax credit for sealing existing ductwork or installing a well-designed and sealed duct system in your exisitng home or new construction.

The tax credit is 25 percent of the cost of the work, up to $250. Work must be performed by a technician certified by the Oregon Department of Energy. Certified contractors are trained to meet the duct testing and sealing requirements of the regional Performance Tested Comfort System (PTCS) program, the same standards as used by most utility incentive programs for ductwork.

If you install and qualify a new tax credit heat pump, air conditioning system, or gas furnace or air handler, and have your ducts sealed at the same time you are eligible for separate tax credits of up to $250 for the duct sealing and an additional $150 tax credit bonus. Applications for the qualifying heating system and the premium efficiency ducts should be submitted at the same time to qualify for the bonus tax credit. Duct sealing may be eligible for other utility rebate incentives as well.
