Speed Limit Increases in 2016
Learn about speed limit increases in central and eastern Oregon
HB 3402 increases legal speeds on select highway sections east of the Cascade Range. Travelers are reminded that with increased speed comes increased responsibility.
Effective March 1, 2016, Oregon's HB 3402 and HB 4047 allows travelers to legally drive higher speeds on Interstate 84 between The Dalles and the Idaho border.
A ten-mile stretch of I-82 between I-84 and the Washington border, plus several secondary highways in central and eastern Oregon will also see speed limits increased. These include portions of U.S. 20, U.S. 26, U.S. 95, U.S. 97, U.S. 197, U.S. 395, OR 31, OR 78 and OR 205. See full description of law changes in HB 3402 and HB 4047, as well as locations in the Speed Increase Map.
Update: In June 2016, we temporarily lowered speeds to 55 mph on four highway segments (about 35 miles total), pending further study.
