TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH PROCLAMATION
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
STATE OF OREGON
WHERAS:The Oregon Department of Transportation serves Oregon citizens and visitors through efforts aimed at minimizing the potential for death, injuries and property damage relating to all modes of transportation; and
WHERAS: The Department through its Transportation Safety Division, implements public education and enforcement programs relating to safety belt and child restraint use, speed control, courteous driving, driver education, work zone safety, impaired driving, motorcyclists, bicyclists, pedestrians, vehicle equipment, emergency medical services, and community traffic safety programs; and
WHEREAS: The Department targets roadway work zone crashes through its Give ‘Em a Brake and Slow Down, Better Roads Ahead campaigns and special work zone enforcement with state and local police agencies; and
WHEREAS: The Department’s Driver and Motor Vehicles, Motor Carrier Transportation, Highway, Rail and Public Transit Divisions also work towards enhancing the safety of the traveling public and all transportation system users through programs designed to provide the highest level of safety for all modes of transportation statewide.
NOW,
THEREFORE, I Theodore R. Kulongoski, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim May 2009 to be
