e-Construction

A New Way of Doing Business

The Oregon Department of Transportation is moving to a "paperless" way of conducting construction project to align with Federal Highway Administration initiatives and industry best practices.

What is e-Construction?

e-Construction is the collection, review, approval and distribution of highway construction contract documents in a paperless environment.

e-Construction at ODOT

Through the e-Construction program, ODOT aims increase efficiency of construction staff by streamlining communications with internal and external partners through the automation of document processing using digital technology.

Implementing e-Construction

ODOT has identified the following elements for implementation of the e-Construction program:

  • Mobile Devices - For use by ODOT project staff to enhance communications and allow for access to project documentation from the field.
  • Document Management System - To store engineering documentation and provide collaboration tools that allow both ODOT and contractor staff to access, exchange and sign construction documentation.
