Opening a New Liquor Store
liquor store

To meet the demand for distilled spirits by the public, the OLCC evaluates the state for potential areas to open a new liquor store. New locations are selected by the OLCC.

Tools used to assist in determining a potential area may include:
  • population
  • demographics
  • roads and highway (new/changes)
  • zoning or land-use changes
  • distance to existing liquor stores

Although many people have a desire to open a new liquor store, or have an available site, locations are selected by the OLCC. The process to become a liquor store operator is quite different than obtaining a license to sell beer and wine. The application process is open and competitive to those who meet the qualifications.
