SALEM—The Oregon Geothermal Working Group (OGWG) will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, in Portland to discuss recovery act and potential geothermal projects in Oregon. The group will meet at the Portland State Office Building (800 Oregon St.) in conference room 1A.

Geothermal energy, a virtually untapped energy resource from the heat in the earth, is important because it has a small environmental footprint, the ability to produce energy consistently around the clock, and emits little or no greenhouse gases.

The Oregon Geothermal Working Group promotes the use of Oregon's geothermal resources for power generation and direct use. Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) leads the OGWG. The OGWG was formed in November 2004 and includes representatives of utilities, government agencies, environmental groups, farming and rural interests, and geothermal industry developers.

The April 11 meeting agenda includes discussion on projects in development such as the Neal Hot Springs (Vale) and Lakeview projects, review of the environmental perspectives legislation, and exploration projects. For a meeting agenda, please visit ODOE online at: http://www.oregon.gov/ENERGY/RENEW/Geothermal/OGWG-Meetings.shtml

Meetings of the OGWG are open to the public. Interested persons can attend in public or call-in at: 1-888-232-3870 (enter participation code 502411).

To request an interpreter for the hearing impaired or accommodations for persons with disabilities, please contact Linda Ross at least 72 hours before the meeting at 503-378-6874 or 1-800-221-8035 in Oregon; TTY 1-800-735-2900; or fax 503-373-7806.
