SALEM — A public information meeting for a proposed wind farm in north central Oregon will be held Thursday, Dec. 8 at Shaniko School (6th and D streets) in Shaniko. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The meeting is the first opportunity for the public to learn about the proposed Brush Canyon Wind Power Facility, which is planned to be sited on 85,000 acres in southern Sherman and eastern Wasco counties.

In October, E.ON Climate Renewables North America Inc. and EC&R Development, LLC submitted a Notice of Intent to the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council to build the facility. The NOI is the first step a developer must take in Oregon to build a large energy generation facility (105 megawatts or greater). The Brush Canyon facility may generate up to 500 megawatts.

The Oregon Department of Energy, which serves as staff to the Energy Facility Siting Council, will be accepting public comments on the Notice of Intent through December 15, 2011. Comments on the NOI will help the applicant identify issues and concerns prior to submitting an Application for a Site Certificate.

The NOI, including maps of the proposed facility, can be found on the ODOE website at: http://www.oregon.gov/ENERGY/SITING/BrCW.shtml

Written comments on the NOI should be sent to:
Todd Cornett, Siting Officer
Oregon Department of Energy
625 Marion St. NE
Salem, OR 97301-3742

E-mail: todd.cornett@odoe.state.or.us
Fax: 503-373-7806
The next opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed facility will be after ODOE receives the Application for a Site Certificate. The public can also sign up to be on a mailing list by accessing the project’s website, listed above.
