  • Dedicating the 2015 Food Drive to Governor Vic Atiyeh
    Gov. Vic Atiyeh
Governor Atiyeh was instrumental in establishing the first statewide food distribution network in the nation, which we now know as the Oregon Food Bank. In 1982, Governor Atiyeh asked every state agency to help with feeding the hungry in Oregon. This proud tradition of state employees helping others has expanded from Governor to Governor. Under the current leadership of Governor Kitzhaber, the state employees food drive has become the largest food drive in the state for the Regional Food Bank Network. The State Employees Food Drive Committee would like to thank every Governor for their leadership and for meeting the challenge set out by Governor Atiyeh “to reduce the suffering of those without food resources” and “show that true Oregonians believe that we can and do help our friends and neighbors in need”.

The 2015 Governor’s State Employees Food Drive in February is dedicated to former Governor Vic Atiyeh. Since its inception, state employees have raised the equivalent of 70 million pounds of food.
