In 1983, Work Share was created in Oregon in an effort for businesses to avoid layoffs, retain talent during a temporary decline in business, and continually provide reduced wages plus unemployment benefits to subsidize for the reduction in wages. Currently, there are over 1,700 active employers utilizing the Work Share in Oregon to avoid wide scale layoffs.
- Three or more employees to participate
- Six months fulltime or 12 months part time
- Labor hours and wages are reduced 20-40%
- Employees must be fully available to work
