The Hot Foods Waiver expired on December 31, 2020
Purchase Hot Foods with SNAP & DSNAP Benefits through December 31, 2020
Recipients of SNAP and DSNAP in the counties listed below can use their benefits to purchase “hot" or prepared foods until December 31, 2020, due to a waiver approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).
This waiver applies to “hot food products prepared for immediate consumption" at participating retailers in the counties listed above where EBT cards are accepted. Examples of allowable prepared foods include hot deli foods, fountain drinks, including but not limited to coffee and tea, a slice of hot/prepared pizza, hot soup, salad bars, and sandwiches.
Normally, recipients could use their benefits to buy prepackaged food items that are meant to be taken home and cooked, but foods prepared and sold to be eaten on the premises are prohibited.
This waiver allows SNAP/DSNAP recipients to use their food benefits to buy foods prepared for consumption on the premises at participating retailers in the approved counties where EBT cards are accepted. FNS informed retailers of this change.
Restaurant purchases are still prohibited.
The waiver ends on December 31, 2020
