What happens after I report participant fraud?
- A fraud referral coordinator will review your complaint.
- We may contact you if we need more information.
- The complaint will be forwarded to the ODHS Fraud Investigations Unit and assigned to an investigator, if appropriate.
- To keep the information private, we aren’t able to report any information back to you.
Can I report people committing participant fraud in other states?
We can only review Oregon benefits. To report fraud in other states, contact that state’s agency or visit the
United Council on Welfare Fraud (UCOWF) website. UCOWF is an international organization that fights fraud, waste and abuse in social service programs.
What counts as participant fraud in Oregon?
Participant fraud against Oregon Department of Human Services or Oregon Health Authority programs includes getting benefits like cash, medical, food assistance or childcare a person isn’t eligible for.
For example, not reporting employment, where they get income, child support they receive, assets they own (homes, vehicles, boats, etc). It can include not reporting marriage, an absent parent in the home (including stepparents) or children living out of the home.
