Application Instructions for Correctional Officer Positions

Schedule Your REACT Test

Correctional Officer applicants must schedule their National Testing Network (NTN) REACT test before submitting their application.

IMPORTANT: Please read the entire job announcement prior to submitting your application. There are specific instructions for applying with the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) and you could be rejected from consideration if you do not follow these instructions.

DOC contracts for testing services for the Correctional Officer position with National Testing Network (NTN). To fill out an application for testing and schedule a test, visit the NTN website and select Corrections to sign up for the Oregon Department of Corrections.

On the NTN website, take the following steps:

  1. Review all information related to the Oregon Department of Corrections Correctional Officer position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
  2. Review detailed information about the testing process for the entry-level test.
  3. Consider taking some online practice tests.
  4. Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered at different dates and times depending on the test center’s schedule.
  5. Contact odocjobs@doc.oregon.gov for a free testing voucher.

Once you have scheduled your test, you are ready to fill out and submit a job application.

Take Your REACT Test

Show up at the location, date, and time you selected and take the NTN REACT test. The test takes two and a half hours to complete. Upon completion of the entry-level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to DOC. Candidates who receive a passing score of 70 percent or higher in all areas of the entry-level exam will be contacted about the next recruitment step.

NTN is a service provided to conduct entry-level testing in a standardized, professional environment. NTN does not represent DOC's responsibility and decision-making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to DOC, where the final decisions are made.

Fill Out an Application

Once you have a date confirmed to take the NTN REACT test, you are ready to apply for the Correctional Officer Announcement via Workday (use the filter options provided to see only DOC openings). You do not need to complete an application on the NTN website.

Thoroughly review your application, answer all fields, and ensure your responses are on target and error-free. Be sure to add any resume and college transcripts attachments (if applicable).

Note for Veterans: Once the application has been submitted, there will be an opportunity to attach your DD214 or 215 discharge forms and VA disability rating letter.

You must include a valid e-mail address on your account/application. Check your Workday profile and your email often; all correspondence regarding your application will be done via these modes of communication.
