Why file with Direct File Oregon through Revenue Online?

Using Direct File Oregon through Revenue Online is free to use and can help prevent some errors. Direct File Oregon provides some guidance for common deductions and credits, performs math calculations and computes tax, and provides links to instructions. If you have a complex tax situation, this may not be for you. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with Oregon Individual Income Tax Instruction booklet and our Publication OR-17 before using this filing method.

Who can file with Direct File Oregon?

Direct File Oregon currently supports Form OR-40 personal income tax.

Direct File Oregon does not currently support:

  • Full year resident taxpayers who file both a federal return and an “as if" federal return.
  • Full year resident taxpayers who file a federal Form 1040NR.
  • Nonresidents (Form OR-40-N).
  • Part-year residents (Form OR-40-P).
  • Amended returns.

If you fall under one of these situations and don't qualify to file your return with Direct File Oregon through Revenue Online, please file your return using a tax software program that has been certified for use with the Oregon Department of Revenue. Find approved online tax preparation software products (prices may vary) or see if you qualify to get free help filing your taxes page.

Even if you don't qualify to use Direct File Oregon this year, we will be improving and adding more functionality in the future.

If you're not sure if you need to file a return, please review "Do I need to file an Oregon Return?" in the Form OR-40 Instruction booklet or Publication OR-17. Even if you're not required to file, you may still receive a refund if you qualify for the Oregon Earned Income Credit or the Oregon Kids Credit.
