DPSST may certify certain courses and field training manuals as equivalent training to be provided to officers and dispatchers for the purposes of obtaining public safety professional certification or meet requirements found in Oregon law.  This page is intended to assist agencies and vendors who are seeking an equvalency review of their course or field training manual to ensure it meets with DPSST requirements. 

A​gencies and ven​​dors wishing to have their Emergency Medical Dispatcher Course recognized as equivalent to DPSST's Basic Emergency Medical Dispatcher course must submit curriculum and testing materials along with the F20 Equivalent Mandated Course Certification Form to DPSST for review. The materials provided will be compared to Oregon's minimum standards for mandated courses pursuant to OAR 259-008-0085. Once the course is certified as equivalent, a unique Course ID will be assigned and must be used on the F6me Mandated Equivalent Course Roster. The F6me roster must be signed by the instructor teaching the course in order for it to be accepted as equivalent training for purposes of DPSST Certification. It is the responsibility of the entity who obtains equivalent course certification to ensure the proper documentation (F6me) is completed in order for students to receive credit for the course.​​​​​​​​​

Agencies and vendors wishing to have their firearms course certified as equivalent to DPSST's Armed Parole and Probation course must submit curriculum and testing materials ​along with the F20 Equivalent Mandated Course Certification Form to DPSST for review. The materials pro​vided will be compared to Oregon's minimum standards for mandated courses pursuant to OAR 259-008-0085. Once the course is certified as equivalent, a unique Course ID will be assigned and must be used on the F6me Mandated Equivalent Course Roster. The F6me roster must be signed by the instructor teaching the course in order for it to be accepted as equivalent training for the purpose of meeting Oregon law requiring armed Parole and Probation Officers obtain training from DPSST. It is the responsibility of the entity who obtains equivalent course certification to ensure the proper documentation (F6me) is completed in order for students to receive credit for the course.​​​​​​​​​​

Equivalent mandated courses must be re-certified on an annual basis following the instructions found on the F20 Equivalent Mandated Course Certification Form​. Failure to re-certify may results in students not receiving​ credit for the course..

​Agencies wishing to have their Field Training Manual certified as equivalent to DPSST's Field Training Manual (FTM) must submit the following in order for DPSST to conduct a review:

  • ​An F37 FTM Equivalency Review Request;
  • A copy of the agencies FTM;
  • A copy of DPSST's FTM cross referenced against the agency​ FTM showing the location of each training topic.
​The materials provided will be reviewed to ensure the agency FTM is equivalent to DPSST's FTM. Once the FTM is certified as equivalent, a specific Identification number will be assigned and must be used on the F38 DPSST Approved Equivalent FTM Completion Record​. The F38 must include the approved DPSST FTM Identification Number and be signed by the officers primary field training officer, the recruit and the Department Head in order for it to be accepted by DPSST.  

Agencies are required to retain the officers complete field training manual and provide to DPSST upon request.

E​quivalent field training m​anuals will be audited periodically to ensure they remain equivalent to DPSST's field training manual.
