Access and Accommodation

DPSST will take reasonable steps to ensure access to all individuals and that accommodation is available to facilitate participation by LEP and disabled individuals. DPSST provides reasonable auxiliary aids and services at no cost including qualified interpreters via phone, in-person, and/or written communication to LEP individuals, to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, and other individuals as necessary to ensure effective communication. DPSST provides accommodations through specialty contracts for translation services and external oregon.gov sites provide translation into 26 different languages. All DPSST Programs may engage our contracted translation service to assist with the translation of phone calls, in-person visitors, and via email at no cost to the requestor. The available contracted translation service can accommodate scheduled meetings as well as immediate translation for a multitude of languages. “Reasonable steps” may cease to be reasonable when available resources and the costs associated imposes an undue burden on the Department. The Department may provide an alternate accommodation that provides effective communication if reasonable steps cannot be provided.
