OGIC Priority Initiatives

To advance its vision for the state, OGIC identified a set of priority initiatives and activities for geospatial data sharing and management.

Strengthen Communications

  • Develop a communications packet and plan that includes materials and mechanisms (newsletters, social media, email).
  • Create a new OGIC hub/website (with the assistance of the Geospatial Enterprise Operations).
  • Engage with the public, the GIS Community, and others to advance GIS in Oregon.

Support Sustainable Funding

Assist the Geographic Information Officer in creating a long-term funding strategy for imagery.

Continue the evaluation of using fees to fund data development and acquisition.
Develop legislative funding requests to support data development, sharing, and aggregation. 

Improve Data Sharing

  • Conduct outreach to OGIC representative groups regarding the benefits of data sharing and the responsibility to share geospatial Framework data.
  • Streamline the Framework Grant Program to focus on priority data development and maintenance.
  • Identify geospatial Framework data for sharing by public bodies; create administrative processes for implementing ORS 276A.509 (consultation, data standards, update frequency, communications).

Legislative Coordination and Advocacy

  • Coordinate with key stakeholders to support OGIC and GIS-related state agency funding requests.
  • Track and respond to proposed legislative bills and concepts that either support or may adversely affect the GIS profession, GIS data sharing, or the use of GIS technologies in Oregon.
