Strategic Implementation Areas

In Oregon, the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) regulates water agricultural water quality. ODA works with local partners, like Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs), to bring expertise, funding, and resources to improve water quality throughout the state.

One way ODA brings resources to specific regions is through a process known as a Strategic Implementation Area, or SIA. The SIA consists of four steps:
  • Evaluating conditions on agricultural lands.
  • Holding a public meeting, called an open house, to hear from landowners in the SIA.
  • Working directly with landowners to address water quality concerns on their land.
  • Monitoring to track progress and results.

More information about SIA grant applications can be found on Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board's website.
