About
This project will improve safety for all travelers on Greenwood Avenue. It includes the removal of the existing center island between 2nd Street and 3rd Street, signal timing at 3rd Street, and new bike lanes.
Location
U.S. 20
|
U.S. 20 (Greenwood Avenue) from 1st Street to 6th Street in Bend.
Cost and Funding
$701,000.00
Benefits
Traveling along Greenwood Avenue can be difficult when walking, biking or rolling (using a wheelchair or other mobility device) and can be a stressful route to drive. This project will tie into the City’s first phase in continuing the important improvements on Greenwood Ave, creating safer travel for pedestrians, bicyclists and cars.
Additional Information
The City of Bend’s Midtown Crossing Project consists of making several busy routes safer for everyone who travels by connecting the west side, downtown and core area. One of the projects is on Greenwood Avenue from Wall Street to 2nd Street and will be completed in phases. The first phase includes “quick build” surface improvements reducing the section to 3 lanes (one travel lane each direction with a dedicated left turn lane), installing painted curb extensions, new crosswalks and buffered bike lanes, adding accessible ADA parking spaces along with creating safer, wider, buffered parking on the south side of Greenwood Ave. The quick build is a pilot project that will be evaluated for a year before deciding the eventual full build construction next summer.
The U.S. 20 (Greenwood Ave) 1st Street – 6th Street project is the next phase to connect these improvements from 2nd Street across the intersection at 3rd Street (where it becomes ODOT jurisdiction) to 6th Street.
