OR 8 at River Road Safety Project

Project Completed

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Hillsboro, Washington)

Construction occured March to August 2022 to replace traffic lights, pedestrian signals, railroad markings and improve illumination at the intersection of OR 8 and River Road in Hillsboro. The intersection is now safer for people walking, rolling, riding bicycles, driving motor vehicles and operating freight trains.

Construction Impacts

Work on this project is complete.

Construction began March 2022 and concluded August 2022.

ODOT upgraded the intersection to include new traffic lights, signalized crosswalks with audible alerts, railroad markings and enhanced illumination. People using the intersection are now forewarned about the upcoming railroad tracks with new markings in place, while new illuminated pedestrian signals and traffic lights indicate safe times to cross the intersection. To increase visibility for all travelers, ODOT also enhanced lighting.
