U.S. 30 Troutdale Bridge

We are designing a project to extend the safety and lifespan of the Troutdale Bridge over the Sandy River. This project will add scour protection to the bridge piers which will reduce the potential for water to deteriorate the bridge supports.

Impacts

Construction Impacts

There will be some limited traffic impacts on the bridge during initial setup of the construction site. Most of the work will be conducted over/near the water, and we do not anticipate any impacts to traffic on the bridge deck or nearby roads during construction.

This portion of the Sandy River is popular with recreational users and the project may direct river users into a smaller section of the river or potentially restrict river access for several hours during construction. These safety measures are critical to protect river users during construction.

About

The Troutdale Bridge over the Sandy River is a historic bridge on the Historic Columbia River Highway. The bridge was constructed in 1912 and needs repairs to extend its lifespan. Over time, flowing water can remove sediment around a bridge’s support structure, in a process called bridge scour. This project will add scour protection in the water around the bridge piers to reduce the potential for water to deteriorate the bridge supports.

Project cost: $4.9 million

Over the next several years, we have many construction projects planned on I-84 between I-205 and Hood River, and on the Historic Columbia River Highway between Troutdale and Hood River.
